Framing Social Issues During the Coronavirus Pandemic

These are unusual times and PCA’s usual news posts do not seem as relevant this week as they have previously been. The message of ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children and young people is probably more important than ever before. The actions we take and the ways we think though, will need to change to ensure we’re still able to meet the care and protection needs of children during such an unprecedented and turbulent time.

“The FrameWorks Institute is a nonprofit think tank that advances the mission-driven sector’s capacity to fame the public discourse about social and scientific issues. […] FrameWorks supports partners in reframing, working alongside leading funders, advocates and scientists who are engaging the public on the most critical social issues”, and they have turned their attention to COVID-19.

Every few days, FrameWorks will be releasing new ideas that can help amplify the values of justice, inclusion and interdependence in responding to and engaging with COVID-19. Their insights can be found here on their Framing COVID-19 page or you can click this link to sign up to their mailing list to have this special series sent directly to you.

At the time of publishing this article, FrameWorks have released their first two insights:

  • Topic #1: Deploying a common good frame

  • Topic #2: Making a powerful case for the role of government

The way we think about COVID-19 and the way it is presented to us impacts how we respond to it. As the Principal Consultant of PCA, I would encourage everyone to sign up to this mailing list to fill up your toolkit and be able to advocate for your service users, your colleagues and the community and be able to “connect people with the bigger picture.”
